Go to a hospital first if
- Swelling is making it hard to breathe or swallow
- You have a high fever along with facial swelling
- You have had a serious blow to the head, or you lost consciousness
- Bleeding is heavy and will not slow down with firm pressure
These need a hospital emergency department straight away, at any hour.
What to do in the next ten minutes
A knocked-out adult tooth. Hold it by the crown, never the root. Rinse briefly if it is dirty and press it back into the socket if you can. If not, keep it in milk and come straight in. The first hour matters most. Do not put a baby tooth back; bring the child in for a check.
A broken tooth. Keep any pieces, rinse with warm water and hold something cold against the cheek.
Severe toothache. Take a painkiller you normally tolerate, and swallow it. Never hold a tablet against the gum, as it burns the tissue.
Swelling. Do not press heat on a swollen face. Call the clinic, since swelling means infection is spreading.
Bleeding after an extraction. Bite firmly on clean gauze for twenty minutes without checking it.
When you arrive
Tell the clinic what happened when you call, so that a chair can be arranged. The problem is examined and X-rayed where needed. Pain and infection come first, and the tooth is stabilised or repaired where possible. Anything further, such as a root canal, a crown or a surgical extraction, is explained and booked for a later date.
Sundays and after 8pm
The clinic is closed on Sunday and after 8pm. If you have any of the hospital signs above, go to a hospital. If not, use the first aid here and call when the clinic next opens at 10am.
Injuries to the jaw or face
A fall, a road accident or a sports injury can damage more than teeth. Dr Lokesh Yadav's surgical work includes fractures of the facial skeleton. If your bite suddenly feels wrong, or the mouth will not open properly, say so when you call on +91 98182 79717.

Frequently asked questions
Can I be seen today?
Call the clinic and you will be seen the same day wherever possible, between 10am and 8pm from Monday to Saturday.
Is the clinic open 24 hours?
No. It is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 8pm. Outside those hours, go to a hospital emergency department if the problem is serious.
Is a broken tooth an emergency if it does not hurt?
It is less urgent, but it should still be seen soon. A sharp edge can cut the tongue, and a crack can let infection in.
My child has knocked a tooth. What should I do?
Keep calm, and call the clinic. An adult tooth should be put back or kept in milk, but a baby tooth should not be put back. Check for cuts to the lips too.
