Before you come
- Skip scrubs, peels and retinoid creams for a few days beforehand
- Avoid waxing or threading on the face just before the visit
- Tell the clinic about recent sunburn, cold sores or any skin infection, as these need to settle first
- Come as you are. Make-up is removed before you start
In the chair, stage by stage
- A look at your skin. The doctor checks your skin and asks what bothers you, to confirm this is the right treatment today.
- Cleansing. The skin is cleaned and dead cells are gently lifted. It feels cool and wet, a bit like a soft stream passing over the face.
- Extraction. A suction tip clears the pores. You feel a light tugging, but there is no squeezing, and it is not painful.
- Hydration. Serums are infused into the skin to hydrate and protect it. This is the stage most people find relaxing.
The first few hours
Your skin may look slightly pink for a short while, and that fades. Most people find it looks clearer and brighter straight away. You can go back to work, meet friends or head home. Sunscreen is the one thing to remember on the way out.
The next two days
- Use sunscreen and keep your skin moisturised
- Stay away from harsh scrubs for a day or two
- Avoid saunas, steam and heavy exercise on the same day, if your skin feels warm
- Do not start a new active product straight after
What you should notice, and when
The fresh look is at its best in the first days. Skin then gradually returns to its usual state, which is why people who enjoy the effect repeat it at regular intervals. Ask at your visit what spacing makes sense for your skin. If something else is the real concern, such as pigmentation, you will be told, so that you do not keep repeating a treatment that cannot fix it.
